Unternehmen Revier - Innovation Region Central Germany

The federal government has been supporting the implementation of the coal phase-out since 2017 with the "Unternehmen Revier" program. To shape structural change from within the affected regions, this funding scheme is designed from the bottom up: In the coalfields, "Regional Innovation Concepts" were developed in public procedures, in which the objectives and future fields are defined for the innovation region of Central Germany on a district-specific basis:

  • USE of value creation potentials
  • DESIGN of the future energy region
  • MOVEMENT with mobility and logistics
  • ENJOYMENT through networked attractiveness (tourism)

Natural persons and legal entities with their headquarters or a company location in the innovation region of Central Germany, which includes the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, can benefit from the funding by participating with their proposals in the annual idea and project competitions. A total of 1.6 million euros is available for each of these competitions. Exemplary supraregional projects can be funded with a maximum of 200,000 euros each. The funding rate is up to 90 % for local authorities and up to 60 % for companies.

The European Metropolitan Region of Central Germany e. V. (EMMD) supports the "Unternehmen Revier" project in terms of content and organization. This includes conducting the annual project competitions and reviewing the applications before the Regional Recommendation Committee, made up of representatives of the regional authorities in the innovation region, selects projects for funding. In the past two years, 35 projects have already been funded with around 3.3 million euros.

After the idea competitions in 2018 and 2020, the third call is expected to take place in 2022.
