GRW - Innovation Region Central Germany

The seven counties and two independent cities of the Central German Mining District have joined forces across state borders to form the Innovation Region Central Germany (Innovationsregion Mitteldeutschland). This is an intermunicipal association of the districts of Altenburger Land, Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Burgenlandkreis, Mansfeld-Südharz, Nordsachsen and Saalekreis as well as the cities of Halle (Saale) and Leipzig. Together, these players want to shape structural change across the Länder and open up new regional economic perspectives beyond lignite-based power generation. The EWG represents the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and its interests in the committees of the innovation region.

With funds from the federal-state joint task "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure" (GRW), studies are currently being carried out, the findings of which form the basis for the development of a master plan for structural change in the region.
